'Rocky' is the town mascot and was constructed to represent the Big Horn Sheep found in the area around Grande Cache. This vibrant town of 3,800 is set in a region of sparkling lakes, cascading rivers, lush valleys and rugged mountain peaks. Located on the edge of Willmore Wilderness Parks, this is Alberta’s largest mountain preserve. Outdoor enthusiast can enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, golfing, horseback riding, canoeing and rafting. The name of the town finds its origins when area when each trapper would make a large "cache" of furs in preparation for spring trading.

The Town of Grande Cache is 140 km northwest of Hinton on Highway 40, 180 km south of Grande Prairie on Highway 40.
