"Land
of Dinosaurs and Dams"
Hudson’s Hope is home to the Land of Dinosaurs and Dams. Incorporated in 1965, Hudson’s Hope has a total area of 927 square kilometers. It is the second largest municipality in BC in terms of area. Hudson's Hope is the third oldest community in British Columbia, and is steeped in fur-trading history dating back to the late 1700s, and the days of the Alexander Mackenzie Northwest Company. The Hudson's Bay Company established a trading post here in 1805, but it closed for 57 years, to punish the First Nations people for resisting the white man's invasion. The area is one of the richest sites of fossils and dinosaur footprints in the world. Twenty minutes from town is W.A.C Bennet Dam , one of the largest earth-filled dams in the world. Behind the dam is Williston Lake , the largest man-made lake in North America, offering excellent fishing and fossil hunting in the surrounding area. The hydro electric project of Peace Canyon Dam can be spotted from the Hudson's Hope Bridge. Source: British Columbia.com |
