The Village of Rycroft was incorporated on March 15, 1944, and it has experienced a slow but steady growth since that time. The Village quickly became a railroad centre complete with a roundhouse and a water tower.

Rycroft offers a quiet camping area with direct access off Highway 49, just a couple of minutes west of the junction with Highway 2. Nardam Lake Campground features a lake stocked annually with rainbow trout.

History tells us that the village got its name in a random draw where four residents, one of whom was Robert Henry Rycroft, put their suggestions into a hat.
