Taylor is home to the World's Largest Golf Ball at the Lone Wolf Golf Club 18-hole course. Once an old fuel tank, the golf ball measures 12.89 meters in diameter and weighs 37 tonnes. |
"The
Industrial Capital of the North"
Taylor, at Milepost 37(km 60), on the Alaska Hwy, sits on a plateau overlooking the Peace River and valley. Taylor was named after a Hudson's Bay trader, Herbie Taylor, who settled in the area in 1906. It wasn’t until 1942 before a suspension bridge was built across the Peace River.
Taylor relies on oil, gas, lumber, pulp and agriculture to keep their economy lively. For the past 30 years Peace Island Park has been home to the World’s Invitational Gold Panning Championship which is held on the first weekend in August. Come and experience the Gold Rush Fever. |
